The SunSun XBL-600 is a hang-on-back filter rated 5W and 500 L/H. It is a classic HOB layout — overflow box on the rim — not the sealed YBF hang-on canister trays. Pick it when you want simple pad-and-media hang-on filtration without a cabinet canister. Listed specs: 5W · 500 L/H · hang-on. Small to medium planted and community tanks where you can hide a HOB on the back pane and still reach the media for weekly rinses. Level the tank, hang the box, fill, and start. Watch for bypass if the intake clogs — HOB boxes leak dirty water over the weir when neglected. Rinse floss often. Replace carbon only if you actually use it; planted tanks on fertilizer usually skip carbon so doses stay in the water. Need trays instead of a HOB box? See [YBF-600](/product/sunsun-ybf-600-hang-on-filter). ## FAQ **XBL-600 vs YBF-600?** XBL is a traditional HOB box. YBF-600 is a hang-on canister with stacked trays and a skimmer. Different jobs. **How loud is it?** HOB splash noise depends on water level. Keep the box full and the weir smooth. **Shrimp safe?** Add an intake sponge. Open HOB intakes collect shrimp better than you want. **Media?** Mechanical pad plus a small bio layer. Do not fill the box so tight that the pump starves.
