The SunSun YBF-500 is the smaller hang-on canister in the YBF pair: same rim-mounted sealed trays as the 600, with less media and a 6W / 500 L/H rating. Use it when a 600-class body would look oversized on a nano or short tank. Listed specs: 6W · 500 L/H · smaller rim tanks. Planted cubes, shrimp tanks, and 45–60 cm scapes that want hang-on trays instead of a full HW-302 cabinet canister. Confirm glass thickness and rim clearance, hang, prime, then start. Point flow along the back glass so you lift debris toward the intake without blasting a carpet. Service pads in tank water. If pads clog twice a week and the tank is 70 cm or longer, step up to the YBF-600 rather than over-cleaning. The 600 adds tray volume and rated flow. **Is this a classic HOB?** It hangs on the back, but filtration happens in a small sealed canister body with trays — not an open waterfall box. **Can shrimp share it?** Yes if you add a sponge prefilter on the intake and keep flow polite. **Prime tips?** Fill the body before the first start. Listen for grinding — that usually means air, not a dead pump.
